The Lufkin ISD Sports Medicine Program services all athletic programs at both the Middle School and the High School, as well as the drill team and cheerleaders. These groups make up approximately 1400 students.

The Lufkin ISD Sports Medicine Program services all athletic programs at both the Middle School and the High School, as well as the drill team and cheerleaders. These groups make up approximately 1400 students.
The Sports Medicine Program's main responsibility is the prevention, acute care, rehabilitation, education and counseling of Lufkin ISD athletes concerning their athletic injuries. The Licensed Athletic Trainers also provide assistance to parents, coaches, athletes, and health care providers when filing claims with our secondary student accident insurance carrier. A secondary duty of the Licensed Athletic Trainers also coordinate the Drug Testing Program with the Athletic Director and the Head Coaches of the respective sports and activities.
Two Licensed Athletic Trainers, Mike “Doc” Waters, MEd., ATC, LAT, CSCS and Jada McBryde MEd., LAT, lead the program. Annually, a Student Trainer Staff of between 12 –24 Student Athletic Trainers assist “Doc” and “Miss Jada” in their duties. (Please see below on how a student may get involved with this program!)
Lufkin ISD Sports Medicine also has an agreement with Stephen F. Austin State University and their graduate level "Athletic Training Education Program". This agreement creates Lufkin ISD as an "Affilitated Clinical Site" and Doc & Miss Jada as "Approved Clinical Instructors". The SFA Graduate Athletic Training Students rotate through the program here at Lufkin ISD and assist with the daily duties, while Lufkin ISD provides the graduate students with learning opportunities and mentoring activities.

Announcements ATTENTION: ATHLETIC FORMS DUE!!!!All student athletes & must have a complete packet of "Athletic Forms" completed and on file at their respected schools for each school year. These forms must be updated annually. All of these forms can be downloaded from the "Athletic Forms" section listed at the bottom of this webpage (or can be picked up at the LHS Athletic Office). These packets need to be completed and returned to the Athletic Trainers as soon as possible.
UIL and Lufkin ISD rules state that All incoming ('11-'12 school year) 7th, 9th, and 11th grade students are required to get a "physical" before they are allowed to participate in any LISD athletic activty. These students must also complete the remainder of the forms in the packet as well. Students entering the 8th, 10th, and 12th grade that have particpated in Athletics and/or Cheerleading during the previous year ('10-'11) and have not had any major illnesses or injuries for this past year are required to fill out all the forms except the "Physical Examination" portion on the UIL "Preparticipation Physical Evaluation" Form.
